Clearing Spaces I & II
Meditation now! Treat yourself to a one-night-only surreal spa night in the country. Using ritualistic relaxation and cleansing massage, the Broadbent Sisters perform a clearing of two spaces. Feather dusters become rainbows, air-ducts become massage tables and sparkles are swept away; uncovering sacredness in the domestic. Be immersed in a stream of fantasy, a place more introverted, a place of self-care. Take a break for reverie and wonder and catch a glimpse of an unfamiliar face that is yours. Allow warm waves to wash over you as two sisters clear spaces in mind and muscle.
Joy Broadbent and Rose Broadbent are multidisciplinary artists based in Toronto. Together, the Broadbent Sisters transform the domestic into dreamlike realms where sparkles are swept and spaces are cleared. Thematically their work is influenced by meditative practices, religious rituals & pop spirituality. Their aesthetic finds inspiration in mass-produced therapeutic objects and elemental nature, while their performance is shaped by their involvement in the fashion, film and music industry. They find collaboration to be a unique venue for distilling the essence of form and exploring telepathic ways of creating. They currently work at Studio 835 and are represented by HUNTCLUB
is a multidisciplinary studio and gallery, located in the heart of Little Italy, Toronto. We are a diverse group of individuals who practice in different mediums and within different industries. What aligns us is our desire to make a living creating stuff, telling stories. We are a work studio. The space itself offers rentals on desk space and photo studio space to freelancers by the day, week, or month. We also rent out our gallery for events and showings.
We are a gallery. We collect ideas, allow them to nourish us, and share them in hopes of creating dialogues within our community. We curate group shows and create an environment where ideas can come to life and be shared with an audience. Supporting emerging and established artists alike, we strive to create a space where any idea or concept is valuable and exciting.
Beyond supporting the artists, HUNTCLUB wants to make participating in the arts a feasible activity for our community. We are wide-eyed and approachable. If you're in the neighbourhood, come by and visit us!
